Simon’s Town, Cape, South Africa

The Laser fleet got two solid races in the South-Easterly breeze, with the host team South Africa’s Gareth Blanckenberg keeping a hold on the top spot in the male fleet with a 1,7, while Poland’s Katarzyna Szotynksa in the female fleet with an excellent 2, 1.

2nd January 1998

Poland’s Katarzyna Szotynska sailed two good races today to move up into the first position overall in the girls’ Laser class with Sarah Ayton of Great Britain in second position and Jo Dikkenberg of Australia in third position. South African Gareth Blanckenberg once again took top honours in the boys’ Laser class with Argentinian Miguel Poli in second position and Croatia’s Marin Misura in third position.

4th January 1998

South African Gareth Blanckenberg has stretched his lead in the boys’ Laser class to fifteen points over Argentinian Miguel Poli in second position. Francisco Sanchez of Spain is still in third position overall. Polish Laser sailor, Katarzyna Szotynska, remains in first position in the girls class, followed by the Brit Sarah Ayton and Australian Jo Dikkenberg second and third respectively.

South African Gareth Blanckenberg took gold in the Laser class for boys with Croatian Marin Misura second and Francisco Sanchez of Spain in third place. Poland’s Katarzyna Szotynska took top honours in the Laser girls’ class with Britain’s Sarah Ayton in second place and Australian Jo Dikkenberg in third place.
